How does Botox Cosmetic™ work?

Botox Cosmetic™ is a highly purified naturally occurring protein derived from the Clostriduim Botulinuim bacteria. Botox Cosmetic™ blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny muscles that are related to expression lines. Botox Cosmetic™ relaxes the muscles so they do not contract. After the treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and free of the dynamic wrinkles while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing desirable facial expression to be unaffected. This relaxation lasts for a number of months before the treated muscles gradually return to their original condition.

Botox Cosmetic™ does not affect the nerves responsible for sensation, so there is no numbness in the treated area. You can stop Botox Cosmetic™ treatments at any time and gradually return to your pre-treatment appearance. The effects of the treatment may show as early as 2-3 days, with the full effect expected within 14 days. The desired result will last 3 to 5 months, at which time another injection will be required. In 90% to 100% of those receiving Botox Cosmetic™, we experience excellent results with 80% to 100% muscle relaxation. After several treatments, the effects of Botox Cosmetic™ may begin to last longer, achieving up to eight months in many individuals.

Is Juvéderm™ Safe?
Juvéderm™ is manufactured under stringent control. The products are non-animal based, ensuring no risk of transmitting disease or allergens to those sensitive to common foods, such as beef, chicken and eggs.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints, and gives the eyes their shape. The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm™ is stabilized for long duration and is not manufactured with any animal or human processes.

How does it work?
Juvéderm™ works by temporarily adding volume to facial tissue. The effect lasts for about 6 months. Juvéderm™ maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm™ is hydrophilic - "water loving". As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This provides Juvéderm™ treatments with long-lasting results.

What areas can be treated?
Juvéderm™ can be used to smooth folds and wrinkles, enhance lips and shape facial contours. The most common treatment areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth) and the lips, although other sites can also be treated. How is treatment performed?

Treatment with Juvéderm™ is quick and easy. As no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately. A treatment generally takes from 30-45 minutes, although time varies depending on the correction you need.

Can Juvéderm™ be removed?
No. However, Juvéderm™ dissolves naturally with time. If you feel uncertain about the desired result, you can choose to have the treatment done in steps on different occasions.

How long will Juvéderm™ last?
Juvéderm™ dissolves naturally over time and is absorbed by your body over time. Your results will depend on several factors including your skin's structure, your lifestyle, and your age. Experience indicates that touch-up and follow-up treatments will add to the duration. Most people chose to have a follow-up treatment within a year after the treatment of wrinkles and folds, and within 6 months after lip enhancement.
